  These two researchers from France invent a toy with a rotary-wing. This toy could take off and fly using its own power. This proves that an object which is heavier than air could fly.

  Drawing a spiral and a bird wing This writer from France is one of the first to use the word "helicopter." This big word comes from two smaller words. The small word "helico" means spiral. The other small word "pter" comes from the word "pteron" which means feathers or wings. These two words put together mean a "spiral with wings."
