Web Accessibility

This site is rich in interactive multimedia content implemented using JavaScript and Flash 5. However, great efforts have been made to ensure that the content presented in this site will be accessible to visitors with special needs as described in Section 508 of the ADA. These efforts include such standard practices as providing alt tags for inline images, using client-side rather than server-side image maps, and denoting tables used for formatting purposes only. The site's story line is presented in both standard HTML text and in streamed audio through the Listen button Flash application on each story page. Visitors whose browsers are unable to support Flash will find the same content presented by these buttons as text within the page.

For visitors who must use browsers that support some level of JavaScript but cannot support at least JavaScript 1.2 and Flash 5, we strongly recommend that the browser be set to disable JavaScript entirely. For browsers that do not have JavaScript enabled, the site will take the following special actions. Pages with interactive JavaScript or Flash activities will present alternate text descriptions of what is happening in the activity. The "Listen to a Rotorcraft" pages that present Flash audio of the rotorcraft will present alternate links to wav files of the audio. Instead of creating new pop-up windows for factoids, glossary items, and think-about-it topics, these pages will be loaded into the main window; simply use your browser's back function to return to the story line. Special links will be displayed following the main story text on pages that include links embedded in image maps.
